Comment from JAK: The focus on the SIP goals here is good, and these goals to play into the strengths of the Social Science department as you note. As far as collaborating, this department has taken some steps internally to facilitate collaboration by using wikis. In the larger picture, "linking up" with the curriculum of other departments should be facilitated by the use of ATLAS on the one hand, and perhaps this wiki on another hand, and the increased meeting time we are devoting to discussions about curriculum. In the future, some of our curriculum meetings will be designed to help "link up" people in different departments that might be able to work together. More immeidately, the Science depatment has a list in their minutes from their August 17 meeting of possible interdisciplinary opportunities; the Social Science department might look at that list to see if some of those ideas for collaboration with Science seem viable from a Social Science perspective. Perhaps, as we continue to work on the 9th grade curriculum and look back to the eighth grade and foward to the 10th grade, we will be able to better develop some of the themes of environmental history with some longevity in the Social Science curriculum.
